Hanbali Madhab
Hanbali Madhab — Zakat Rules
Predominant in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. The basis of many official scholarly rulings in Saudi Arabia.
Key differences
- Worn jewellery is NOT zakatable
- Zakat IS due on a minor's wealth (guardian pays)
Zakat on Jewellery
Worn gold and silver jewellery is exempt from zakat in the Hanbali school. Investment or stored gold and silver remains zakatable.
Wealth of Minors
The Hanbali madhab holds that zakat is due on the wealth of a minor. The guardian pays from the child's wealth.
Timing
Unlike Maliki and Shafi'i, the Hanbali madhab does not require immediate payment upon hawl completion — some delay is tolerated. Advance payment is permitted.
